There are companies and non-profit organizations who are in great need of help and are eager to hire qualified, passionate employees who want to invest in their organizations and make a difference in our community.
Let us help you connect your skills with their needs and begin to forge relationships that can lead to you making a lasting impression in the career of your choice. Our experienced FUTURES staff is here for you, and can help create a successful career environment that you will thrive in.
Career skill training
Once you discover the type of career you want to work toward, we will go to work to begin preparing you by working on the skills required for the career you’ve chosen. You will spend time in our FUTURES classroom with experts that will make sure you get the training you need.
You may also get the opportunity to shadow someone who is already working in the field you are going to go into, so you get a good sense of what the career would be like. This way, you get to try to job out before actually doing it.
You will also have the opportunity to try out your career in an apprenticeship, where you can commit to a short-term opportunity to see if the career and the job is a good fit for you and a good fit for them. If the opportunity presents itself, then you can move into a more permanent arrangement as the next logical step in your relationship. If it doesn’t seem like the right opportunity for you, you can move on to a different apprenticeship.
Workplace readiness/Interview training
Once you’ve determined what kind of career you want and done the hard work training to work in that career field, now it’s time to learn how to get the job of your dreams! The FUTURES team will teach you everything you need to know: how to prepare for an interview, what to wear to an interview, what to ask, and what you may be asked, etc. We’ll even do practice interviews in our FUTURES office to make sure you are comfortable and confident before your actual job interview. Remember, you will never be alone, we’ll be there in the interview with you to cheer you on.
Our FUTURES staff will also be teaching you everything you need to know to be successful in the workplace: how to communicate with your supervisor and fellow employees, how to ask for what you need, how to make sure you’re clear in what is expectedly of you, etc. We have many years of experience helping people with important transitions like this one, and we’ll make sure you are ready to take full advantage of the opportunity you have worked hard to get.
Workplace accessibility review
For our Business Partners, our FUTURES experts will help evaluate your workplace site to make sure our FUTURES students will be comfortable working in your office setting. If there are any adjustments that need to be made, we can recommend partners and funding sources to make sure the work environment is accessible and comfortable for your FUTURES employee.
Workplace employee training
One of the most unique features of our FUTURES program is how we educate and prepare the colleagues and employees our FUTURES students will be working with to ensure a smooth transition and successful partnership.
Having a FUTURES employee on staff allows for growth opportunities for every member of the organization. After going through the workplace training, your staff will be better educated, more inclusive and inspired by the hard work it has taken the FUTURES student to fulfill their dreams. Your employees will see their own jobs in a new light and their lives with be better for having the opportunity to work alongside a FUTURES employee.
Career advising/Career skill enhancement
Once a FUTURES student successfully transitions into the workplace, the training continues. The FUTURES team member that accompanies the FUTURES employee to their job will be in constant communication with the FUTURES employee and their supervisor. How is the job going? What further trainee would the employee like? What other skills would their supervisor like them to learn? What skills could use fine-tuning or are they able to be successful with the training they’ve had so far? The FUTURES employee is in constant communication with their on-site team member and the workplace leadership to ensure continued success and growth.
The FUTURES team partners with the FUTURES student/employee for a full year, helping them in the workplace and with further skill growth. They also help coach them to advocate for themselves to help them take the next step in their growth and in their careers. Self-advocacy training and confidence coaching is an important part of the FUTURES curriculum and our FUTURES employees will have a clear vision of their goals and what they want to accomplish in their careers.
By the end of the 12-month relationship, the FUTURES employee will be ready to advocate on their own, have a solid relationship with their supervisors and colleagues and be ready to take the next steps in their career based on their individual goals.
